It
is hard to believe that this talented actresses, singer, and dancer has
been ruling Hollywood for over 20 years, but Jennifer Lopez is
constantly making herself relevant in the ever changing industry. Jenny
from the Block has never been shy about allowing the public into her
high profile life, but here are some facts that you might not know about
her!
- Lopez loves romantic comedies.
In the late 90’s and throughout the 2000’s, this starlet made some of the best rom-coms ever (
Wedding Planner and
Monster In-Law, anyone?) During an interview with Redbook magazine she said, “I’ve always loved
When Harry Met Sally, because it really shows men and women and how they are when it comes to relationships. I also love
Prelude to a Kiss,
because it’s about someone being in love with not the shell of the
woman but her soul, and that’s what I always wanted — someone to love me
for my soul, for me as I really am.”
- She is an LGBT advocate.
In April 2014, she accepted the top honors of the organization’s 25
th
Annual GLADD Media Awards. When accepting the Vanguard Award for her
work as an executive producer on the new television series “The
Fosters,” she opened up a bit about her gay Aunt Marissa. She said that
her late aunt would be “so proud of her.” She also stated in her
acceptance speech, “I’ve always felt tremendous love for the LGBT
community and the LGBT community has always supported me and returned
that love,” she gushed. “That was one reason I wanted to produce this.”
- Jennifer can take a joke.
Ellen
of television talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is known for getting
her celebrity friends to help with hilarious practical jokes. She got
J-Lo to wear an ear piece and repeat everything she said while
interviewing two hopeful assistants. Playing into her reputation as a
diva, Ellen made her repeat stuff like “Is my beauty distracting? Some
people are distracted by my beauty” and “What’s one of your favorite
songs of mine? … I’m sure you know ‘Jenny from the Block.” By the end
of the joke, Jennifer was laughing as hard as Ellen.
- J. Lo does not drink or smoke.
Still
globally recognized as one of the most beautiful stars, she credits her
young appearance and beauty to avoiding alcohol and cigarettes. During
an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Jennifer said, “I think that ruins
your skin. Of course, during celebratory toasts, everybody’s like, ‘You
can’t toast with water!’ So I’ll toast with alcohol and just take a
sip.” Now if only we could be as dedicated as her!
- She does an awesome Rihanna impersonation.
Jennifer
hosted the late night comedy sketch show “Saturday Night Live” a few
years ago and nailed it. One of the best skits was when she did a
Rihanna impersonation. During a “We Are the World” parody, she sang in
her best RiRi voice even punching it up with some “eh” islander sounds
after each verse. If that wasn’t good enough, seeing her in Rihanna’s
“Rated R” days outfits was pretty inspiring.
- Lopez has the best nicknames.
Everyone
who knows Jennifer Lopez knows the J-Lo and Jenny from the Block
nickname but here are a few of her nicknames from when she wasn’t famous
yet. When she was still living in the Bronx, her friend’s called her
‘The Supernova.” ‘La Guitarra’ was another nickname because her feminine
figure reminded people of the shape of a guitar.
- Lopez was a backup dancer for Janet Jackson and NKOTB.
Ms.
Lopez got her start as an amazing back-up dancer on the sketch comedy
television series ‘In Living Color.’ Afterwards she was nabbed by Janet
Jackson and New Kids on the Block. She performed in many of their hit
tours throughout the world! You can also see her in one of Janet’s (Ms.
Jackson if you are nasty) videos- ‘That’s the Way Love Goes.’
- She grinded on MC Hammer when he was popular.
She
always seems so dignified and poised but in 1989, before she was a Fly
Girl on ‘Living in Color,’ there is a video of her getting personal with
MC Hammer. She used to dance on ‘Yo! MTV Raps’ and was in a
promotional video for MC Hammer. Even if you don’t know who MC Hammer
is, you should check out the video for a laugh.
- In 2009, she fell on national television twice.
We
know we said she was dignified and poised most of the time (when she
wasn’t dancing on MC Hammer), but she managed to be klutz even if it was
only for two weeks when she managed to fall TWICE on national
television. Only one of them was serious though. During her performance
at the American Music Awards in 2009, she fell pretty hard on her
well-padded bottom after trying to do a jump in sky high heels. At least
she had a sense of humor about it and made fun of herself on ‘Ellen’ a
few months after the incidents.
10. She was going to be a lawyer.
Of
course this was before she became an overnight success as a dancer on
‘In Living Color.’ She told Access Hollywood, “I had worked in a law
office, but I was already dancing so I was already kind of falling in
love with that very much. So it was kind of like the practical side of
like your mom and everybody saying you should become a lawyer and you
should do this and you should have that career and me in my mind saying
no that’s not what I want.”
